INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
By Alan Penn, International President
Kiwanis One Day
One Day can make a difference. One Day can change your community. Kiwanis One Day is April 21st. That’s the day the entire Kiwanis family of K-Kids, Builders Club, Key Club, Circle K, Aktion Club and Kiwanis comes together to serve the children of the world. Plan a project that truly impacts your community. Clean up a park, build a playground, revitalize a neighbor, or in the spirit of the Eliminate Project plan a service project to improve maternal and child health in your local community. Working together we can make a difference!

Missouri-Arkansas Kiwanis membership exceeds 6000!
THANK YOU MO-ARK KIWANIANS!! Your hard work has helped us once again get back over the 6000 member mark. We are sitting this morning at 6004. When our newest club, the Maumelle, AR Kiwanis Club, is added we will be up to 6032. I'm hoping there will be more as the reports for January are due to KI by the 10th. Thanks for helping our District Grow for Service.
ON TO SPRINGDALE >>>>>>>>>>>>>
I hope all of you are planning on joining us in Springdale, AR for our Mid-Winter Conference. This is only FOUR weeks away. If you have not registered, please go to our district website and do so. It looks like I may be wearing some Black & Gold and doing a MIZZOU cheer unless my Arkies catch up in the registration process. Come on Guys, I don't look good in Gold & Black.
Seriously, we have some important educational opportunites for those attending and FUN for all. Please come and meet our Kiwanis International President, Alan Penn, and his wife Jerri. We will be having other special guests at our conference that should make it a great weekend.
I also want to remind everyone about the special fund raiser we will be doing for the Eliminate Project; our Basket Raffle. I will copy the flyer that has been sent out by conference Co-Chair, Scott Blackwell, to the bottom of this message. We want ALL clubs to be aware of this and hope many will participate. I'm also asking that all Trustees, Division LTG's & Club Presidents to please pass this information to your clubs.
PLEASE COME TO SPRINGDALE! I HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE....

Do you know any Distinguished Members?
As we have wrapped up the month of May—Membership month—we want to acknowledge those members who have spread the Kiwanis spirit. Have your clubs check their rosters to see if they include any members who have met the Distinguished Member criteria.
1. Sponsor two or more members during current year2. Attend either a mid-year, zone or regional conference, or registered to attend the international or district conventions3. Participate in two or more service projects during the yearEvery club needs Distinguished Members who "light the fire" for membership and help grow their club!
To register your members, the club president and secretary can fill out the 2011–12 Distinguished Member online form.
Distinguished Members will be awarded a lapel pin and will receive a special thank-you from President Sylvester Neal, which includes a "Light the Fire" lapel pin. This pin is awarded to members who are continuing to grow the Kiwanis organization by sponsoring new members. Special recognition will be bestowed upon these leaders at the 2012 international convention in New Orleans.
Let’s get the pins ordered and worn by these members now to inspire others to strive for Distinguished status.(Note: the lapel pins and letter are being sent directly to the member, on a weekly basis.)

Welcome to the Missouri-Arkansas District website. The focus of each and every Kiwanis Club in our International organization is “Serving the Children of the World.” This mission statement encompasses many areas such as hunger, disease, safety and any other problem that our children might face from day to day.
Jan and I invite you to look deeper into our district’s website and see what the Kiwanis Clubs in Missouri and Arkansas are doing for the children of our two states, North America and the World, by clicking on the “Service Projects” button. Or, click on the ‘Service Leadership” button and see the many youth organizations our Kiwanis Clubs have in place where we teach servant leadership; from elementary school age through college age, as well as for adults with disabilities.
If you like what you see, please contact us and we will help find a club in your immediate area. You can then visit one of their meetings and see how you could join in the efforts to improve your community and help the children in your town.
“More Hands – More Service, filling the needs of others.” That is our theme in Mo-Ark this year. We want to increase our numbers to be able to increase our service to our children. Come Join Us!

What if you could save a baby's life?
With The Eliminate Project, you can. Maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) kills one baby every nine minutes. But three doses of a 60-cent vaccine can protect mothers and babies. Kiwanis and UNICEF have joined forces to bring this vaccine to 38 countries, eliminating MNT from the face of the Earth. What can you do right now? Learn about MNT and advocate for the cause. Participate in our fundraisers. Over the next few years, the work we do will change the world. Find out more at www.TheEliminateProject.org.
